Australian Made Liner

What is drain relining?

Drain relining is a trenchless method of repairing a damaged underground drain pipe from the inside. A flexible structural liner is inserted through an existing access point, positioned over the defect, then cured to form a new pipe within the old one — without excavating your garden, driveway, slab or tiled surfaces.

Unlike drain cleaning — which jets out a blockage but leaves the pipe condition unchanged — drain relining permanently repairs the structural defect that caused the blockage. It is the difference between clearing a symptom and fixing the cause.

  • No digging, no excavated trenches, no surface reinstatement
  • Seals cracks, root entry points and failed joints permanently
  • Works on clay, PVC, concrete and cast iron drain pipes
  • Covers sub-floor drains, stormwater lines and drainage runs under slabs
  • Usually completed in a single day
  • 50-year written warranty on every installation

Drain cleaning

Clears the blockage. Does not fix the pipe.

High-pressure water jetting removes roots, grease and debris. The pipe condition — cracks, open joints, structural weakness — is unchanged. Roots and blockages return.

Drain relining

Repairs the pipe. 50-year permanent fix.

A structural liner bonds to the inside of the damaged pipe, sealing cracks and root entry points permanently. No excavation. Backed by a 50-year written warranty.

Not sure which you need? A free CCTV inspection tells you exactly what condition your drain is in — and whether cleaning, relining, or something else is the right answer. We never recommend relining if a clean is all that is needed.

Common drain problems that need relining, not just cleaning

If your drain has been cleared and blocked again within 12 months, the pipe almost certainly has a structural problem.

Recurring root intrusion

Tree roots force their way into drain pipes through cracked joints and corroded sections. Jetting removes the roots but does not seal the entry point. Within months — sometimes weeks — roots are back. Relining permanently closes the gap.

Cracked or fractured drain pipe

Ground movement, soil settlement and age cause drain pipes to crack. A cracked pipe allows soil to enter, restricts flow and worsens over time. A structural liner bonds to the inside of the pipe, bridging and sealing the crack permanently.

Displaced or offset joints

Joints between pipe sections shift out of alignment over time, creating steps that trap debris and cause blockages. A continuous liner bridges displaced joints and eliminates the step from inside — no digging required.

Old clay drain pipes

Many Sydney properties still have original clay or earthenware drain pipes. These are brittle, prone to root intrusion and often have corroded joints. Clay is an excellent host for the Nuflow liner — the epoxy bonds tightly to the clay surface.

Drain under a slab or driveway

When the damaged drain runs beneath a concrete slab, tiled courtyard or sealed driveway, excavation is extremely disruptive and expensive. Drain relining resolves these jobs without touching the surface.

Deformed or partially collapsed pipe

PVC and clay pipes under heavy loads can deform, restricting flow and trapping debris. Relining restores the internal diameter and prevents further deformation, provided the pipe retains enough shape to accept a liner.

Types of drains we reline in Sydney

The same trenchless process applies to all drain types — CCTV inspection, liner installation, post-install verification, 50-year warranty.

Sub-floor and internal drainage

The drainage system beneath your home connecting bathroom, kitchen and laundry fixtures to external pipes. Sub-floor drains are particularly vulnerable to root intrusion in properties with established trees close to the building line.

Stormwater drains

Underground pipes carrying rainwater from your roof and paved areas to the street or council system. Cracked or root-affected stormwater lines cause localised flooding and property damage. We reline stormwater pipes from 80mm up.

Downpipe connections

The underground run connecting your downpipes to the street drainage system. Frequently cracked or root-affected, and often ignored until serious surface ponding or overflows occur.

Commercial and strata drainage

Larger-diameter drain runs in commercial buildings, strata complexes and multi-dwelling properties. We reline commercial drainage with minimal disruption to building operations and provide full documentation for body corporate records.

How drain relining works

Four steps from free inspection to a relined drain with a 50-year warranty — usually completed in a single day.

01

Free CCTV drain inspection

A drain camera travels the full length of the pipe, recording condition, locating defects and confirming access points. You see the footage and receive a written report. This inspection is free and carries no obligation to proceed.

02

Clear and prepare the pipe

Where root intrusion or debris is present, high-pressure water jetting clears the pipe and prepares the internal wall to receive the liner. The camera confirms the pipe is clear and the geometry allows relining.

03

Liner installation and curing

The Nuflow liner is inserted through an existing access point and positioned precisely over the repair zone. It is then cured with UV light or steam, forming a new structural pipe within the old one.

04

Post-install inspection and warranty

A final CCTV pass confirms the liner is correctly seated, junctions are reinstated and flow is fully restored. You receive a written 50-year warranty document and a copy of the post-install footage.

How much does drain relining cost in Sydney?

Drain relining costs vary by pipe length, diameter, access conditions and the extent of any root damage or structural defect. No two jobs are priced the same, which is why we always inspect before quoting.

Pipe sizeSetup costPer metrePer junction
100mm (standard house drain)$2,500$450/m$650
150mm (larger drain or stormwater)$2,600$550/m$750

Typical job range

$4,500 – $9,000

Most Sydney residential drain relining jobs involving 4–8 metres of pipe fall within this range. Complex jobs with multiple junctions or restricted access cost more.

Every price is fixed after inspection

We do not quote drain relining over the phone. The camera tells us exactly what is needed — and that is what we price. Your written fixed quote is confirmed before any work starts.

Drain relining FAQs

What is the difference between drain relining and drain cleaning?

Drain cleaning — high-pressure water jetting — clears a blockage but leaves the pipe condition unchanged. If your drain has a crack, failed joint or root entry point, those defects remain after a clean. Drain relining repairs the structural problem permanently. If your drain has blocked more than once, a CCTV inspection will confirm which service you actually need.

How long does drain relining last?

Maida drain relining carries a 50-year written warranty. The Nuflow liner system is rated for up to 100 years of service life and is structurally stronger than the original pipe once cured.

Can my drain be relined without breaking up my driveway or tiles?

Yes, in most cases. The liner is inserted through an existing access point — a cleanout, inspection shaft or open end — without any surface excavation. Driveways, tiled courtyards, concrete paths and garden beds stay completely intact.

My drain has blocked twice in the past year. Do I need relining?

Possibly. Recurring blockages usually indicate a structural defect — a crack, failed joint or root entry point — that clearing alone will not fix. A free CCTV inspection confirms whether the pipe has structural damage and whether it is suitable for relining.

What types of drain pipe can be relined?

We reline clay, PVC, concrete, cast iron and fibrous cement drain pipes. Older clay and earthenware pipes common in inner-Sydney properties are particularly well-suited to relining, as the Nuflow epoxy liner bonds effectively to the clay surface.

How long does drain relining take?

Most residential drain relining jobs are completed in a single day. The CCTV inspection takes 30–60 minutes. Liner installation and curing adds a further 2–4 hours depending on pipe length and complexity.

Does Maida reline stormwater drains as well as sewer drains?

Yes. We reline stormwater drains, sub-floor drainage, downpipe connections and sewer lines. The same trenchless process and 50-year warranty applies to all drain types.
